To overcome the challenges of accessing very large LiDAR elevation data sets on a statewide basis, the DNR has developed easy-to-use GIS web services that display lidar-derived elevation data for nearly all of Wisconsin. The data sources for the publicly available services consist of mosaics of highly detailed digital elevation models ranging in resolution from 2-foot to 3-meter pixels. In addition to the lidar-derived DEM service, a Hillshade image service is also available. Over time, newer lidar data is used to replace older data and to fill gaps in the DEM and Hillshade services.
